"Benjamin Lowy’s photograph of Floyd Mayweather wasn’t intended to be a cover; he took this shot for what we call a “technique shot.” Yet when we saw the defending champ demonstrating his famous shoulder roll, we knew it had to be the cover of our Fight Issue, one with profiles and separate covers of Mayweather and his opponent Canelo Alvarez. We decided to go with a bright white background—a rarity for The Magazine—to contrast the fighter’s dark skin, showing off the beads of sweat on his forehead and intense concentration in his eyes. We offer this cover as an athlete who is the embodiment of his craft in a rare moment when boxing rose to the top of the sports conversation."

Critique: I really liked this cover because you can really see the concentration in his eyes and you can see how hard he was working because of the sweat. You can obviously see that Mayweather is a boxer just by looking at the picture because the photographer captured his boxing gloves and even the fist swinging at him which I think is very rare and cool. I also really liked how the made the magazine have a light background so that it contrasts really well with his skin and he stands out more. The lighting of this picture is really good because it is just perfect to see all of the details in his face. I think it was a really good idea to have the cover be black and white because it adds more emotion to the picture and it is really appealing to the eye.

Early Magazine Covers didn't usually have an actual cover, they usually used the from page as like the title and table of contents. Most people who made magazine covers tried to style them after a book cover so they were pretty boring. Some covers just had an illustration that mainly related to what was in the book but it didn't reveal anything specific about what was inside.
The Poster Cover was mainly just a very large picture or illustration with a title. It looked as if it was supposed to be printed out and hung on a wall instead of being read. They would sometimes also have smaller cover line that would further explain what the magazine was actually about. Poster covers still appear sometimes on magazines that are already very confident with the amount of readers they get.
Pictures Married to Type covers were mostly just a picture of the model or subject with the title and few cover lines. There weren't too many words on the cover but the words that were on there didn't describe the articles inside as you might think. Most of the words on the covers were actually names of the people who contributed to the magazine and the title.
In The Forest of Words covers are the normal covers that we usually see. They have a lot of words on the cover as well as a main big picture of the model or subject. The words on the cover are the title and smaller subtitles that describe some of the bigger articles and content that are actually inside of the magazine so you know what you are reading.
